Preventing unwanted litters is the most obvious benefit of spaying and neutering. But it’s not the only one. Having your furry friend spayed lowers the risk of mammary cancer in female pets and eliminates the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer. Neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer in males while decreasing the risk of prostate problems.
Spaying or neutering your pet may also curb problematic behaviors like urine marking, roaming in search of a mate, howling, and aggression. Despite common misconceptions, having your pet spayed/neutered won’t make them lazy or cause them to pack on extra weight. Spaying and neutering are simple, safe procedures, and complications are extremely rare. The benefits greatly outweigh the minimal risk, and we strongly recommend these procedures for most of our patients.
