DENTISTRY

Just about everyone understands that it’s important for humans to receive regular dental care.

What many people don’t realize, though, is that dental care is just as important for dogs and cats. Tooth and gum problems are extremely common among companion animals. In fact, roughly 70% of pets suffer from some type of dental disease by the time they reach three years of age. When left untreated, problems involving the teeth and gums can lead to serious complications.

At Parkview Pet Hospital, we provide safe and effective professional pet dentistry services in Long Beach. Whether your pet requires a simple exam and cleaning, an extraction, or any other type of dental service, our compassionate team can help.

COMPLICATIONS OF DENTAL DISEASE

Dental disease does much more than cause unpleasant breath. It can have a major impact on your pet’s overall health and happiness. Poor dental health often causes discomfort and pain. When left untreated for an extended time, it can even lead to problems with your pet’s lungs, kidneys, liver, or heart. By bringing your dog or cat in for regular dental appointments, you can help them avoid these problems.

DENTAL CARE FOR PETS

Aside from basic visual exams, all pet dentistry services are performed while the dog or cat is under general anesthesia.
This ensures their comfort and safety while allowing us to do a thorough job. Before administering anesthesia, we will conduct a comprehensive exam, which may include bloodwork, to ensure that your pet is healthy enough to safely be anesthetized. Your pet’s condition will be closely monitored while they are asleep, too, to ensure their safety.

After the exam, we will clean your pet’s teeth and gums using advanced pet dentistry tools. In cases of serious periodontal disease, tooth extractions may be performed, as well. We strive to complete dental services with speed and efficiency to ensure that your pet is under anesthesia for as little time as possible. Their vital signs will be monitored throughout the procedure, and a member of our team will keep a watchful eye on your pet as they recover afterward.
